Hollyhock 8 s

HOLLYHOCK DOLLS

Hollyhock 1 s

In my childhood, a friend’s mother taught me how to make dolls from hollyhocks.

  Hollyhock doll 1 s

We had the most fun,

carefully attaching “heads” and “bodices” onto the lush blossoms,

dressing the pretty ladies in fancy gowns.

 Hollyhock 5 s

Our imaginations took them frolicking through the sunny garden.

We pretended they were gliding across a ballroom floor.

Hollyhock doll 2 s

Sometimes it took a lot of determination to get the little stems pushed into the right places.

I just loved the frilly skirts our little dolls wore!

  Hollyhock 6 s     Hollyhock 4 s

Now, I enjoy showing my granddaughters how to assemble them.

Go find some hollyhocks and try it ~ and take a lovely lady dancing!

Hollyhock 3 s

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

. . . a time to dance;”

Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4.

Dry ground s
Puddle s

We got some much-needed rain this morning.

The crops were parched ~ the ground was cracking open.

We thank You, Lord ~ thank You so much!

Hollyhock 7 s
Edit ~ someone is asking how to make the dolls:

Pick the full blossom and the “bodice” with about ¾ inch stems.

Slip the “bodice,” top-side down, over the “skirt” stem.

Pick an unopened bud without a stem to use for the “head”

and gently wriggle it, top-side down, over the stem of the “bodice.”
You might even figure out how to put a ruffled flower "bonnet" on her!

  Enjoy!

Ok, you have me intrigued...how do you make them?  I have a ton of Hollyhocks that are going to bloom later in the week.

Thanks for sharing.:butterfly::bluedaisy::bluebird::rainbow:

What a creative idea, now I just have to find some hollyhocks. RYC: River Nachos is what that restaraunt calls their plate (huge plate) of homemade Nachos with all the fixings and topped with grilled chicken (so yummy). I think I told you this before but you must of drove through our town to get to your destinations in Maine.:camera:

I think Xanga (or the Internet) is "flaky" today.  My site hasn't shown footprints since 4 AM, however, I've received comments.  I'm looking at the photo you can's see, so I know it is there - hopefully you will be able to see it later.
