HOLLYHOCK DOLLS
In my childhood, a friend’s mother taught me how to make dolls from hollyhocks. We had the most fun, carefully attaching “heads” and “bodices” onto the lush blossoms, dressing the pretty ladies in fancy gowns. Our imaginations took them frolicking through the sunny garden. We pretended they were gliding across a ballroom floor.
Sometimes it took a lot of determination to get the little stems pushed into the right places. I just loved the frilly skirts our little dolls wore! Now, I enjoy showing my granddaughters how to assemble them. Go find some hollyhocks and try it ~ and take a lovely lady dancing!
“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: . . . a time to dance;” Ecclesiastes 3:1, 4.
We got some much-needed rain this morning. The crops were parched ~ the ground was cracking open. We thank You, Lord ~ thank You so much! Edit ~ someone is asking how to make the dolls:
Pick the full blossom and the “bodice” with about ¾ inch stems. Slip the “bodice,” top-side down, over the “skirt” stem. Pick an unopened bud without a stem to use for the “head” and gently wriggle it, top-side down, over the stem of the “bodice.” You might even figure out how to put a ruffled flower "bonnet" on her! Enjoy!
